This blog began as a way to get my research published besides Hamline's Bush Library. However, I am no longer a graduate student, now I am going to be helping teachers and students use technology in a school this fall! I am very excited and my first task is to learn about what the iPad can do for K-4 schools. Here is my first idea.
With the help from this macworld article, and the book Blogs, Wikis and Podcasts (also on my Shelfari) I think a fun way to help teachers see the benefit of using iPads for reading is by using the iPads as our books for a book club.
1) find a short, fun, (possibly non-educational- it is summer!) book available for a low cost on either the kindle app or ibook app.
2) meet to discuss the book over treats or drinks and see how everyone liked it. With the lightweight iPad, the meeting could really take place anywhere!
To make it even more interesting, have participants take notes on a wiki as a way to discuss the book. They can take notes or write reflections while reading and then have their notes and the story all on the iPad for the book club meeting.
My hope is that if we are successful as adults with this format, it would be easy for us to use it with students of all ages.
Has anyone tried this? Am I picturing something that you think would work? Either adults or kids?
Happy Summer!
